Adding metrics to JST from BIU
Feature Request submitted by BIU:
Hello,
We would like to propose the following enhancements for JST:
Our researchers would greatly benefit from having the following information available for each journal listed in JST:
- Impact Factor (from JCR)
- CiteScore (from Scopus)
- SJR - Scimago
- Rank and Percentile
This information is essential for our researchers to select appropriate journals that can support their evaluations by the tenure committee.
We will greatly appreciate if you can support those feature requests

This would be fantastic, although I imagine the cost would go up.

Good morning,
Thank you for your suggestions regarding the addition of Impact Factor, CiteScore, SJR, and Rank/Percentile to the Journal Search Tool (JST). We understand how this information can be helpful for researchers in selecting appropriate journals, especially when supporting evaluations by tenure committees.
We've thoroughly investigated the feasibility of incorporating these metrics. While we recognise the idea of their initial utility, we've decided not to add them to the JST for a few key reasons:
Our Reasoning
- Cost Implications: Integrating these proprietary metrics would significantly increase the cost of the JST, and we want to keep your tool as accessible as possible
- Holistic Perspective: Current journal metrics, while widely used, don't always provide a complete or unbiased picture of a journal's quality or suitability. We believe that researchers should make their own decisions when it comes to publishing
- JST's Core Purpose: The primary goal of the JST is to help researchers identify open access publishing opportunities based on your institution's agreements. Our focus is on simplifying the process of finding compliant and relevant open access avenues.
Future Enhancements
That said, we are actively exploring other functionalities that align more closely with the needs of researchers in the open access publishing landscape, separate from these specific metrics.
We'll be sure to update you on the progress of these new functionalities at our next community call.
As always, we appreciate your understanding and continued support in making the JST a valuable resource for your researchers.
