At SciFree AB, we are dedicated to providing solutions and services that reduces the workflow burdens in open access management and publishing for all our customers and their researchers. We strive to ensure that our Software as a Service (SaaS) platform, designed for university library customers, is usable by everyone, regardless of their abilities.
Using internationally-recognised accessibility standards to allow support for a broad range of assistive technology (AT) such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and voice recognition.
Our Commitment to Accessibility
We are committed to meeting the accessibility standards outlined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. These guidelines are internationally recognised and provide a framework for making web content more accessible.
SciFree utilises industry standard technologies such as Java, JavaScript and HTML to render interfaces. SciFree’s team follows international accessibility standards to support a range of assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice recognition and where applicable colour contrast standard and image descriptions.
Accessible Features
Our Journal Search Tool (JST) search page, version 3.0 is compliant to WCAG 2.2 Level A and meets >95% for WCAG 2.2 Level AA with all criteria being supported except two criteria which are partially supported. Key features supported includes:
- Ability to resize browser to 200% without loss of content
- Navigate using a keyboard
- Navigate and listen using a screen reader
Partially supports:
- 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus (Level AA 2.1 and 2.2) When a person hovers their mouse or uses keyboard focus over an element to provide more information is both hoverable and persistent. It cannot be dismissed without moving pointer hover or keyboard focus. If implemented this would cause the content to no longer be hoverable or persistent
- 3.1.2 Language of Parts (Level AA) The webpage language is set to English, unless the university is using SciFree’s multi language support. If the text written by universities in the information box is written in another language this may not be marked as the correct language. Journals cannot be set as language of parts as these are outside of SciFree control as are uploaded by universities.
